Movie Review- Koothara
The movie Koothara is directed by Srinath Rajendran while the main castings are Sunny Wayne, Tovino Thomas, Bharath, Mohanlal. The film is said to be part meaningful while part meaningless.
Story
The story behind the movie is simple and pretty. It points out some adverse circumstances in human life which later turn beneficial to them. In the movie the director tells the story in the background of a college campus while the source of the story theme is revealed by the end of the movie. Through this theme the director has succeeded in bringing the lazy sense of psychopathy that penetrates the film.
In the college campus, the roles of three engineering students are played by Sunny Wayne, Tovino Thomas and Bharath. They happened to be dismissed from their college after a series of antics. The three youths are firm on their dreams despite being pushed aside by adverse circumstances in their life.
In this film, the girls are exhibited as clever betrayers and sexy witches who mercilessly treat men just like tissue papers. On the screen, the female characters are appearing and disappearing just like bubbles.
Mohanlal comes in the movie in fanciful role with uneven overgrown beard, blankets and darkened face. Right from his name and words, his deeds and character are inscribed in mysterious theme which do not work to full effect.
In the movie, his character hesitates to some extent because of confusion or an uncertainty regarding the true motives of the character. But his overall performance is good even though he has not gone deep into the nature of the character.
Koothara cannot be called as an enjoyable movie despite the rich vigorous youthful energy that has been pumped into it. In normal sense, the movie is a disappointing one.

Malayalam Review – KOOTHARA
മോഹന്‍ലാല്‍ അഥിതി വേഷത്തില്‍ എത്തിയ ‘കൂതറ’, വെറും കൂതറ പടം എന്നു ആദ്യ റിപ്പോര്‍ട്ടുകള്‍.’സെക്കന്റ് ഷോ’യുടെ സംവിധായകന്‍ ശ്രീനാഥ് രാജേന്ദ്രന്റെ രണ്ടാം ചിത്രമായ കൂതറയ്ക്ക്, അത്ര മികച്ച പ്രതികരണം ഒന്നും ലഭിക്കുന്നില്ല. വ്യത്യസ്തമായ ശൈലി കൊണ്ടുവരാൻ ശ്രമിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ടെങ്കിലും അത്ര തന്നെ പ്രായോഗികമായിട്ടില്ല. “സെക്കന്റ്‌ ഷോ” യിലെ സ്റ്റോറി ലൈന്‍ തന്നെ പിന്തുടരുന്നതിനാൽ കൂതറയിൽ ശ്രീനാഥ് വലിയ മാറ്റങ്ങള്‍ ഒന്നും വരുത്തിയിട്ടില്ല എന്ന് വേണം പറയാൻ.

ആദ്യ പകുതി കാംപസ്: (കണ്ടിരിക്കാം അത്ര തന്നെ)
ചിത്രത്തിന്റെ ആദ്യ പകുതിയില്‍ സ്ഥിരം കാംപസ് ചിത്രങ്ങളില്‍ കാണുന്ന കാഴ്ചകളൊക്കെത്തന്നെയാണ് കാണാനാവുക. കൂബ്രിന്‍ (ഭരത്), തരുണ്‍ (ടോവിനോ തോമസ്‌), റാം (സണ്ണി വെയ്ന്‍) എന്നി മുന്ന് എഞ്ചിനീയറിനഗ് വിദ്യാര്‍ഥികളുടെ കഥയാണ് ഇവിടെ കാണിക്കുന്നത്. രക്ഷിതാക്കളുടെ നിര്‍ബന്ധം മൂലം മാത്രം എഞ്ചിനീയറിംഗ് പഠിക്കാന്‍ വേണ്ടി വന്ന ഇവര്‍ പഠിത്തം മറന്നു പെണ്ണിനും കള്ളിനും പിറകെ പോകുന്നു. ഇതില്‍ നര്‍മ്മവും കൂടി ചാലിച്ചതിനാല്‍ അത്രയ്ക്കങ്ങ് മടുക്കില്ലെന്ന് പറയാം. കാമുകിമാരും നായകന്മാരുമായുള്ള സീനുകള്‍ക്കെല്ലാം പതിവ് സ്റ്റൈല്‍ തന്നെ.

രണ്ടാം പകുതി: (സഹിക്കാൻ പറ്റില്ല)
ഒരു നിഗൂഡമായ ഭാവവുമായി ഇന്നേവരെ കാണാത്ത രൂപത്തിലാണ് മോഹന്‍ലാല്‍ വരുന്നത്. പേരില്ലാത്ത കഥാപാത്രമാണ് മോഹന്‍ലാലിന്റേത്. ചിത്രത്തിന്റെ തുടക്കം മുതല്‍ ഒടുക്കം വരെയുള്ള കൂതറയെന്ന നായയുടെ സാന്നിധ്യവും ശ്രദ്ധേയമാണ്. അതുവരെ ഒരു കാംപസ് ചിത്രത്തിന്റെ ഫീലുമായി പോയ ചിത്രത്തിന്റെ രീതികള്‍ മോഹന്‍ലാലിന്റെ വരവോടെ പെട്ടെന്ന് മാറുകയാണ്.

ഭാവന, ഗൗതമി നായര്‍, ജനനി അയ്യര്‍, ശ്രിത ശിവദാസ് ഇവരെല്ലാമാണ് നായികമാരായി എത്തിയത്, ഇവര്‍ക്കൊന്നും ചിത്രത്തില്‍ കാര്യമായി ഒന്നും ചെയ്യാനില്ല. വെറുതെ അവിടവിടെ വന്നു പോകുന്ന നായികമാർ..അത്ര തന്നെ.

പ്രതേകിച്ചു ഇണമോ താളമോ ഒന്നും ഇല്ലാത്ത ഈ പാട്ട് കൂതറയുടെ കൂതറ ഫീൽ കൂട്ടുന്നു. ഇതിലെ പാട്ടിന്റെ വരികള്‍ കേട്ടാല്‍ നാം സന്തോഷ്‌ പണ്ഡിറ്റ്‌ മഹാനായ കലക്കാരനാണെന്ന് വരെ പറഞ്ഞു പോകും. ഒരു പതിവ് “ക്ലൈമാക്സ്‌” നല്‍കി നിർത്തുന്ന ചിത്രം ആവര്‍ത്തന വിരസത തോന്നുന്ന സീനുകളും കണ്ടു മടുത്ത തമാശകളും കൊണ്ട് ആകെ മൊത്തം ഒരു ‘കൂതറ’ പടം തന്നെ ആണെന്നാണ് ആദ്യ റിപ്പോർട്ടുകൾ പുറത്തു വരുമ്പോൾ വ്യക്തമാകുന്നത്.
